Car Rental Insurance – should you buy it?

Posted on March 10, 2007 by admin

If you buy rental car insurance? This is one of the most common questions. When they arrive at the rental counter, many renters do not know what to do when it comes to accepting or rejecting coverage of the agency and exemptions. This hesitation is not knowing what your personal auto insurance or business covers while renting a vehicle. Many people think they are covered by your credit card.

As a tenant, you are entirely responsible for any loss or damage to the rented vehicle. This includes theft as well. Before renting a car, you should review your current coverage and coverage of credit car.If you have a liability insurance are covered, but only the responsibility. Liability insurance basically covers the driver and passengers, but not the rental car itself. If you have liability insurance (which is required by law), then you’re covered in a vehicle you drive, if it is rare, and not as part of their normal routine. This includes a rental car. Your insurance company will cover damage to someone else (and injury) to its limit.

Many drivers are slightly covered by the average rent (assuming it is for business and pleasure are not). If you own a car, talk to your insurance agent. The same coverage and deductibles you carry in your car will be applicable in most cases a rental car or recreation. Be careful. If your policy provides limited coverage may be necessary to calculate the value of the loss or damage to a vehicle again and decide if you need to complete.

For example, if you decline LDW at the rental counter and rely on their own insurance are likely to be responsible for paying the usual frankness. In addition, loss of use rights is not normally covered by personal automobile insurance policies. And, personal auto insurance policies that extend collision coverage for a rental car can provide only limited coverage equal to the value of the vehicle.  If the value of your personal vehicle is less than the rental car, you can always hire some responsibility for damage.

Note: Job loss is a tax levied by the rental company if the rental car is damaged and sent for repair. Do you charge for loss of use for each day the vehicle could not be rented.  That can add up!
Exemption from loss, damage the company offers car hire covers the loss of use. Also, if you do not have a car or rent cars very often, you should ask your insurance agent about purchasing a liability policy non-owners. Can provide high coverage for multiple locations and can become a better company than the damage waivers offered by rental companies .. But keep in mind, if you cause damage to your car hire to make your car insurance premium to rise steadily.

If your business trip, consult your company policy on corporate travel to see what you’re covered in a rental car.If a rental vehicle is used to transport a group (eg, school, team, country, etc.), the group must provide the rental car with his own group liability insurance. In addition to auto insurance, some credit cards cover damage or theft of your rental car.

Note: Do not cover hold only one card, you must use the card to rent and pay for the vehicle. Some plans cover accidents if the cardholder is driving, not the spouse of the cardholder. Even if it can replace the need for CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) offered by the rental car counter, check with your credit card company to see what kind of vehicles are covered. Credit Card coverage can vary from card to card, and can also vary depending on the issuing bank or credit as well.

Check your credit rating car rental is primary or secondary. For some credit card companies, your coverage becomes primary only if they have no personal accident insurance for your account. The credit card companies do not provide coverage for more expensive rentals, so you must call your credit card company to see what they cover rental cars. Usually provide coverage for cars and do not include high rents, such as sport utility vehicles (SUVs), luxury cars, exotic cars and vans. coverage of credit cards do not cover long term rentals or vacation in other countries.

Some insurance credit card to rent states from certain rental companies. Remember to check this requirement before you book your car.
The final result is evident in everything!
If you do not need to purchase optional coverage which will undoubtedly save you money, but only if you’re really covered.
